Our temporary studio

Mass MOCA

Visited the Oh, Canada show and the Sol Lewitt retro at Mass MOCA yesterday and loved both shows! We found some secret swings out back and also a street transformed into a beach. Summery mirage!

Exploring, Day 1

We took a bike-ride along the canal in Utica. Towards the end, there was a desolate field with foundations of missing buildings. Perhaps a future video site?

First Light Last Light, an excerpt

We are developing a new multimedia project called First Light Last Light. The initial presentation of the project is an 8-minute performance with video. Soon we will present the longer version of the piece, but we are excited that the ideas in this project lend themselves to different formats and durations. Here are some performance shots, trailer coming soon...

Moving Picture

In conjunction with the end of our short-term residency at PS122 Gallery, Lisa Iglesias, Jeff and I, organized a group video screening of our contemporaries whose works we appreciate. The show was called Moving Picture. Here is the press release and photos from the event:

We are pleased to present Moving Picture at PS122 Gallery, a one-night only screening of fourteen works of contemporary video art. The selected artists explored a broad spectrum of content while exercising parallelisms in tone and approach. Each video uses a unique multi-dimensional language, simultaneously evoking sensation while guiding the viewer through a sequence of imagery and inquiry. As the genre is deconstructed, character, narrative, sound and setting reconfigure and synchronize as complex textures. The resulting works find affinity through visual and musical rhythm, a beat set to all things noncrystalline.

Moving Picture is organized by Lisa Iglesias, Jeffrey Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier. PS122 Gallery, Saturday, March 24th, 6:00pm-8:00pm at 150 1st Ave (entrance is on 9th street between 1st Ave and Ave A). Participating artists: Megan Biddle, Ben Bigelow & Terry Powers, Audra Brandt, Mary Coble & Blithe Riley, Madeline Djerejian, Lisa Iglesias, Avi Krispin, Jeffrey Kurosaki & Tara Pelletier, Sujin Lee, Jason Mitcham, Rosemarie Padovano, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Ann Oren, Nathaniel Sullivan, and Richard Walker.

This screening is made possible by the PS122 Short-term Gallery Residency program, partially funded by members of Painting Space 122, located at 150 1st Avenue, ground floor entrance on 9th st.

Weekend 2, Day 1, of Cats and Cops

We came up to Connecticut to stay with Tara's parents while we used the woods around their house as a site for our next video, First Light Last Light. Day 1 (Saturday) was a bit of a struggle. We were overtired and cranky, so we were second guessing a lot of the shots. The tension was dispelled when we met an unlikely assistant, named Bugsy. We set up our shot for Sunday, which is an all day time-lapse that we are starting before dawn. In the evening it got a bit colder and we went into the woods with our propane lantern to shoot the fire scene next to the brook. We were well into the shoot, when a police officer pulled into the woods and shined a big spotlight on us. Apparently the neighbors were worried about a mysterious light in the woods. Busted! We packed up and called it a night. Hopefully better luck tomorrow!
